What Happened to...?

January?

My parents weren't joking when they said "Time flies the older you get." Um, where did January go? Maybe it's that I'm a little more settled in, I'm required to show up to a job, time passed quickly over the last few weeks.

Work has been fun, I feel very comfortable there. It is a thrill to be able to talk to people about my tattoos, why I have them, what they stand for; it's wonderful to see others embark on the experience. We recently had a fun experience talking to two Vietnamese women at (fun!) Fantastic Sam's about my chestpiece and what it was/meant. I'd never laughed so hard about it in my life.

In order to challenge my creativity (and for it to coincide with my job theme), John wanted to test me with a "draw this in a week" contest, only to leave me hanging by not following through with his submission - which he did on purpose. I asked him to draw a panda eating a popsicle and he told me to draw a rhinoceros pirate with a peg leg jumping rope. Sunday to Sunday time period, and I made the deadline. I wasn't pissed about John not meeting his match, or even bothering to show me if he worked on anything, but I did use it as ammunition to tease him.

Here's what I ended up drawing:

Word had it that there were more killer waves at the North Shore on one of John's days off, crashing in super close to the beach. We drove to the Country to check it out, and clipped it to video.

BARACK OBAMA BECAME PRESIDENT. :)

There was yet another failed attempt at getting a local Hawaiian state ID for me. Seems that my controversy lies mostly in my last name and confusing identity. More than anything, I want to cut out the horrendous last name that I adopted with my previous marriage, but I'm locked into it for another 2 months. I've been able to work around it by getting my passport with my maiden name, but everything else (and I mean everything) is under this new Deathname. It's horrible, sometimes makes me feel as though I have no real identity (if you can imagine). Because the name I had and want, isn't me anymore in terms of legal status. If I'd have gone to the DMV and tried getting an ID in my maiden name, and they'd run a check on my SSN, I would come up as not existing. Therefore, identity fraud and 6mo in jail or roundabouts $500 in fines all by trying to be myself instead of having this dumb-married Deathname. Choice A - wait it out until I end up adopting John's last name. Choice B - getting it in my Deathname. Choice C - change name to maiden, end up changing again by the end of the year.

After backing out due to my identity crisis, we stopped to check out the Aloha Tower on the way home. We took pictures of the fish (including the spelling of the state fish and several trials saying it over and over in my head),

I forced John into taking a shitty photo with me, being that we haven't taken a single one together since we were both in Pittsburgh. Photo sucks, we're not in shape, we look like goons... but it's honest because we're happy.... And really really happy about the bakery, Sweet Nothings, that provided us with cornbread, cheesecake smothered in strawberries, brownies, apple strudel, lemon poppyseed muffins, a pumpkin-custard pie, and peach pinwheels. ALL SUGAR FREE.

Superbowl Sunday happened, and sure - it could have been better. This may have been the ONE TIME where I thought to myself "Dammit, I wish I was in Pittsburgh" - but we made due and did good. A flag was hanging off the lanai (photo in previous entry), John wore a leatherhead hat that my dad sent to him, I had on my BabyDaddy's jersey (Santonio Holmes, that is, for those of you that don't know how much I love him), and a Terrible Towel was tucked in front of the TV. There were about a half dozen people walking around with jerseys on Game Day. We sat on the couch, ordered PizzaHut (with whole wheat crusts!), and never took our eyes off the game (except for halftime, but I think that went for everyone else in America because let's face it : who really likes Bruce Springstein anyways?)

GOOD EFFIN' GAME. Nail biting, where the hell did our Defense go?, since when can Kurt Warner actually pass?, holy shit James Harrison ran the entire length of the field, and OH MY GOD we got a touchdown at the last minute just like how many other games this season?!?! And the Steelers won. And now there's 6 championships for the city. And it seems that this kinda thing really does work for the city. :)

To celebrate, we hiked up that gigantic mountain again. Me? Still working on the breathing techniques (mouth breather + 12yr smoker + out of shape = must focus hard), but all in all the steps weren't so tough this time. Breaks were shorter, breaks were fewer, should have taken more water. We explored the top of the mountain this time, rather than just sitting on the few rocks at the top of the actual stairs. There were tunnels and mine shafts, cliffsides, and a view that (John said) makes you want to bring a hang-glider.

I chickened out on going across the bridge that's meh... about halfway down, but I did manage to get my legs lifting to look so much like a Pinocchio puppet while running down the uneven steps from there to the bottom. Two days later, my thighs and calves are still burning a little but I can't wait to do it again.

Drawning Assignment #2: a pair of praying zombie hands, holding barbed wire rosary beads. WTF? How can you have barbed wire rosary beads? Whatever the case, I went for it despite my lack of interest in ever drawing anything barbed-wire associated.

And now I have to draw the tattoo on my calf, but different. John said to draw a new school lighthouse with water and rocks, which is what I already drew once upon a time and got tattooed on me, but to draw another one. So far I've been stressing about it because I don't want to make a duplicate, but on the other hand I don't want to make it too far off from the original as to lose its significance (since he's hinted at getting this new one tattooed on him). Thinking too much has put me back to the drawing board three times already (harr harr) and I'm on a deadline. Errmmmm.... like, tomorrow.
