This weekend is completely nuts in Waikiki. Tomorrow, just a few miles away, is the last ProBowl event for Honolulu. There are still a lot of tickets left, too - and that's a damn shame.
Ask me why, and I couldn't tell you (I'm a girl, therefore, only care so much). I've heard that the players like coming to NeverNever Land for the event, and it's really really busy around these parts. It all comes down to money, I suppose.
Yesterday at about 12:30, a humongous black guy strolled into the shop with his entourage and they all wanted to get tattooed. My manager said the group of them were in the day before and got tattooed then as well. But now they wanted other ones, and so did more members of the family. Maybe I'm new at this... but when did entire families go into tattoo shops and get worked on as a group outing? For two consecutive days?
Turns out, big ol' bossman was Walter Jones, from the Seattle Seahawks. Hmpf, a seachicken. But a seachicken, nonetheless, who had 7 people would end up getting tattooed with him that day. Eight total. And Walt's mom paid for it all (grand total of $1,200 after we hooked Walt up with a free one). No jokes here - they were all Dirty South through and through (self-proclaimed) and still lived in Aliceville, AL. Including the twins.
I ended up leaving work at 6pm, the twins (the last of the group) were finally getting tattooed by Rudy. The day was solid: the eight walk-ins thanks to Walt, Rudy's 2 appointments, Max's sleeve session, Kory's walk-in, Roy coming in on his day off to tattoo another employee AND one of the Jones' family members, and I still booked 3 more people for the weekend and days following.
The streets are flooded with people, I don't want to attempt the beach. There's a ProBowl SHOP at the corner of our street, and its insane in there. Today I'm going to strut and see what I can poke my nose into this afternoon before another shift. Still crossing my fingers that we might might end up going to the game or having an awesome run in with one of my hometown heroes.
